While the feel of a good old-fashioned book cannot be replaced, I have slowly learned to adjust my reading habits to accept e-books and e-readers. While the internet had a lot more time to gain a welcome with me, e-books and readers have only recently been tried and grudgingly accepted. With the Internet it was the learning curve which slowed my welcome but as soon as I swallowed my pride and accepted help (usually from someone much younger) the wonder and expanse of the internet was truly incredible. E-books and readers were a different story. They where encroaching on a lifelong habit of comfortably curling up with a book, escaping to whatever wonders were awaiting me. Can e-books and e-readers be implemented into the enjoyment of a really wondrous story?
Yes. At certain times an e-reader can be beneficial in reading a good book and taking pleasure in a quality story. They are lightweight and easily carried, especially helpful when traveling. An almost inexhaustible supply of titles and genres stored on an electronic pad smaller than most notebooks can’t be beat. For the small amount of space they take up and ease of transporting they are actually quite amazing. However, spending a slow day of peace and quite wrapped up in a good old fashioned book will never be topped. In spite of this, there is no reason not to take advantage of an e-book and e-reader when it’s obviously an advantage and can ease the problems of hauling books and other media around. Time to enter the twenty-first century!
The advantages of e-readers, and e-books when it comes to children should be self-evident. There is not the hang-ups that older people have with more established reading habits. Also, hopefully, not much of a learning curve for the tech savvy kids of today. The huge amount of not only fiction titles but non-fiction and textbooks available should warm the heart of any parent. The type of e-reader you buy will dictate what other options you will have offered, magazines,music,shopping,browsing the net or even color or no color! Many options are available according to your price range and desired use, so it might not be a bad idea to investigate e-books and e-readers.
